STATEMENT BY THE COLONIAL OFFICE.

LONDON, May 6.
In the House of Commons, Lieut.Colonel Seeley, Under-Secretary for the Colonies, in, reply to a question, said that owing to the exceptional nature of the qualifications desirable, there was some difficulty in. finding a suitable candidate for the post of British Member of the Joint Court in the New Hebrides, but he hoped that he would soon be selected. Ho added that •tibe Court could not commence ito functions until the buildings were completed in the autumn.
