Mr Deakin, being again questioned respecting the New Hebrides, stated that he had sent the following messages to the Colonial Office:—"Ministers are privately informed that the French member for the Joint Court for the New Hebrides has been chosen, and is now in the Group, studying local conditions. Obviously this will give him a great advantage, unless the British representative be appointed at once."
On March 16fch he received' a cablegram stating that the appointment of a British Judge would be made as soon as possible.
