AUCKLAND, April 28. Interviewed to-day regarding tho Rev. J. J. North's statements as to the necessity for amending the Gaming Act in regard to racing, the Hon. 1). Mitchelson, chairman of tho Auckland Hacing Club, said that dm club nearly two years ago had taken tho initiative in regard to suppressing the bookmakers. Hβ would favour wiping out bookmakers altogether. He admitted that Mr North had touched a weak epot in gard to our racing, and the regnlation of the totalisator cluhs. The representatives of the Metropolitan Clubs at tho Racing Conference would willingly agree |to reduce the number ot clubs and days of racing, but they were out-voted by the representatives of country clubs. "There is no doubt, -, he added, "that there is far too much racing/'. Ho agreed with Mr North as to the necessity for urging.on the Government the suppression of nonA totaJisator clubs, the restriction ot totelisator, elube, and ifo& re&trictiom. of of proprietary racing.
