WEST CHRISTCHURCH.

At the meeting at West Christchurch thero were albout thirty present, and MrC.-D. 51orris presided. The annual report referred to .the success of tho' secondary school, and tho satisfactory number of pupils who had gained honours, passed the Civil Service and matriculation. Tho Chairman moved the. adoption of tho report, congratulating the householders on the condition of tho school. Mr Cutler seconded the motion, whioh was carried.

Fourteen candidates were nominated for the committee, and the following were elected :—Messrs H. S. Colter, J. Holt, A. Harris, J. H. Jones, C. D. siorris, S. McMurray, F. G. Jones, Dt. Cj.lton, A. Kings-ford. slr Coker moved.- tnat the Education Board should be-again urged to put in single desks in all new schools. The motion was seconded by Mr Jones. Dr. Chilton opposed the motion, not that ho objected to single desks in themselves, but tho expense would be very large. He said the benefits of. tho singlo d«wk were to a largo extent imaginary. Tiie motion was lost on the casting voto of tho chairman. (

At a subsequent meeting of the committee, Mr C. D. iforris was re-elected chairman, and Mr A. P. Farrow, secretary and treasurer; and meetings were fixed to bo held on the second Wednesday of the month.
