KAIAPOI.

At the Kaiapoi meeting forty-two householders were present, including! some ladies, and Mr J. H. Blackwellj presided. Fifteen candidates were! nominated, including two ladies, and the following were elected:—Messrs G. A. Ellen (chairman, re-elected), J. «. Asbby. F. Thome, A. T. Clark, Rev. J. S. 'Reid, A. Johnson, H. Parnham, H. Packwood, and." Rev. W. Heaven. The Rev. J. Holland stated that in conjunction with the Revs T. Trestrail and J. S. Iteid he wished to hold classes in religions instructionr in school hours one day a week. He said tho present classes wore held so lato in the day that, the children were tired, and it w,as difficult to keep their attention. . - Mr Bean (headmaster) statedfthat as the syllabus was already overloaded, he objected to any such lessons.as those proposed being given within school time, and he gave a number of reasons against Mr Holland's proposal.
