At a meeting of tbo Mataura Athletic Society, the grievance of the Southland arfd Wanganoi Caledonian Societies was condderal, and the fol- * lowing resolution was carried:—"That i f this society wishes to express its ap- * , preciation of the successful efforts of - the Athletic Union to control cash 1 athletic-! in New Zealand. As there '■ b are affiliated with the Union fully 98 1 i per cent, of the athletic societies and I i competitors, wo fail to understand liow \ j any society can claim to .«> acting in ■■ -, the interests of the sport by standing t aloof from the Union. This society j especially appreciates tho good work of . the President, Mr G. W. Woods."
