NOTES.

The staff officers are especially pleased with the manner in which the cperatoTS, male and female, at the Telephone Exchange, carried out thedr duties during the manoeuvres. Tho telephone at tho headquarters was in us© practically tho whole time, and thepromptitude with which the connections "were made was of gwit assistance. The bureau-keepers also rendered a great help by-readily placing tflieir telephones at the disposal of the officers in the field at all hours.

"They are tho best manoeuvres I have ever taken part in," remarked! an officer after hostilities had oeased, "and will' be" of great value to volunteering in this district. As far as the payment of the men is concerned, we have found! that it has practically not influenced tho country men at all, but it has certainly increased the numl>er of town wen who have taken part in the manoeuvres."
