THE LATE MRS JOHN STUDHOLME.
» (rUESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) ASHBtRTON, October 16. An inquest, touching the de-atih. of Mrs Alexandra Studholme. wife of Mr John Studholnie, of Coldetrcam, who died suddenly at the homestead yesterday afternoon, was held to-day beforo Mr V. G. Day, Coroner. The modioal evidence showed; that Mrs Studholm© had been confined to bed for eight tveeke, and that yesterday, at the request of Mr and Mrs Btudholmo, Dr. B. M. Moorhoatec, of Christchurch, administered! an auteethetic (chloroform) to allow of an examination being made to discover from what complaint she vran eufForing. Owing to tho illness of Dr. Hunter, who had been attending Mrs Studholm© before Dr. Moorhouse's visit, tho latter had to administer the. chloroform and make, tho examination alono. Aftor the investigation, tho patient's heart gradually faiied, and: despite, all efforts, life became extinct. Though v poet mortem of all fhe vital organs except the brain wae made, no cause of death was found. Death, was attributed to chloroform acting on the patient when she was in a w&ak condition and suffering probably from somo distention of some of Iho internal organs. Tho jury, without retiring, returned a verdict in accordance with the. medical evidence. Deceased was the daughter of tho late Dr. Thomson, Archbishop of York.
