THE PRICE OF WHEAT AND FLOUR.

1 (PBES9 ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.) AUCKLAND, October U. *Xho Master Bakers' Association decided to increase the price of bread to id the 21b loaf, as from this morning. The president of the Association states that tho increase was unavoidable, owing to the advancing price of flour, which rose on Friday and fcsaturday, until southern milling tlour now costs between £12 10s and £13 a ton, while it is also probable that a further uicreaso will tako place during the week. The price of wheat, he states, has also increased, and holders will not sell except at the highest figur**, tbe supplies being very limited, and almost all the mills short of grain. When the bakers' case was heard before the Arbitration Court some yean* ago, »> scale was submitted by the master bakers, by which the rise in the price of bread in proportion to the advance on flour was stated to be regulated. This scale has since been practically adhered to, with a balance, if anything, iv favour of the consumer. It is as follows: — Flour £7, 4lh loaf od: flour £7 to £8, 4lb loaf o*d; flour £8 to £9, 41b loaf fjd; flour £9 to £10, 41b loaf 6Jd; flour £12 to £13, 41b loaf 8d; flour £10 to £11. 41b loaf 7d; flour £11 to £12. 41b loaf 7jd; flour £13 to £14, 41b loaf SJd. DUNEDIN, October 14.

Owing to a further advance in the local wheat market, the price of flour has boon advanced £1 per ton. It is not likely that the increase will entail a rise in tho prico of bread.
