ANGLING NOTES.
Contrary to the usual order of things thus early in the season, good sport has been obtained in a snow river—at tho llangitata mouth. One angler on the north bank made a bag of seventeen, weighing from 31b to 81b each; and a good many have been landed on the opposite side, a fortunate fisherman sending over oOlb of fish to his friends inland, as his take of the previous evening. So far no particularly good baskets hove been made on tho fly streams, the wretched weather and continued cold winds keep the fish down, and the average size of those taken has been very small.
Tho Opihi is reported to be full of fish, but thero has been too much water for successful angling. Cooper's creek, where so many good baskets wero mado during tho past season, dried up in tho autumn, and though it is now running again thero are no fish in the water. This creek has only been in thirty years, so it should bo worth restocking. The ttdegraphed report regarding the state of the Canterbury rivers yesterday was :—Ashley, WaimakaYin (north and south), Ashburton (lower and mouth), dirty; Rakaia and Opihi, discoloured; Selwyn, clear; Ashburton (upper) and Rangitata, fishablc; Wuitaki, in good order.
