AN AUSTRALIAN PIANIST.
GREAT RECEPTION AT LEEDS. United Pre** Association—By Electric T«legraph-<:opyright. LONDON. October 13. Mr Percy Grainger, the Australian pianist, received an enthusiastic reception at tho Leeds Festival after pliying Grcig's Concerto a second time.
Speaking of the performers at tho forthcoming Leeds Festival (says Ijondon "Truth"), a contemporary remarks that, "the solo pianist at the Festival will bo Mr Percy Grainger; a pleasant recognition of British talent"—a remark which, perhaps, affords food for thought. Is there any other country in the world, I wonder, where it would lie thought worthy of gratified comment that a native performer had been chosen to appenr at a native festival? Mr Percy Grainger has met with great success in England during the last couple of years, and critics have given him very high praise. He played to Greig on that composer's last visit to England, and Greig declared that the young Australian understood and played his Norwegian music better than anyone he had ever heard.
