THE WIRE-NETTING DUTIES
OBJECT OF AUSTRALIAN NAVY,
United Pref.s Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. MELBOURNE, October 10. Sir W. Lynn accepted n. reduction of the wire netting duties from 30 per cent, against the world nnd 25 per cent, against England to 15 and 10 per cent, respectively.
In the House of Representatives, in connection with Mr Ramsay Macdonald'e Kpeoch, the Treasurer was asked if it was part of the policy of the Government to build a navy, and did they contemplate* fighting; Japan. The Treasurer replied that the question was a stupid one. The navy would always be ready against the enemies of Australia, hut ho hoped they would make no enemies.
A DISPUTED ELECTION.
Tho Disputed Returns Committee reported that the election of Senator O'Loghlin by tho South Australian Parliament was wrong, and that he was not entitled to liold his seat.
