THE DISTRICT SCHEME.

At the annual meeting of the Riocarton Cricket Club on Saturday night, Sir O. B. Calcutt, the chairman, referred to the district scheme, wnich has recently caused a good deal of discussion in cricket circles. Hβ remarked that at the laet annual meeting it had been deemed inadvisable to express any decided views on the matter, as the innovation was then in its infancy, but now they had had experience of another season he thought he was safe in saying that the members of tho club caw no cause for reverting to the old system. Hβ could understand why some cricketers preferred to play with tho men they had been associated with from their boyhood in preference to playing with men they did not know, "but this was not an insurmountable objection. "Various remarks had been made about cricketers of the past not caring to mix with the present-day men, but he felt quite satisfied this feeling was not at the bottom of tho trouble at all, and he thought it only right to dissociate the Riocarton Club from any euch objectionable opinions. Referring to the discussion -which had taken place on the subject vi the columns of the newspapers, Mr Calcutt said that the letter reoentlv written by Mr Wynn-Williams had thrown valuable light on the controversy, and ho felt euro that tho members of the club duly valued the opinion of snch an experienced ex-cricketer as the gentleman in question.
