RICCARTON CLUB.
At the annual meeting of the Riocarton Cricket Club, held on Saturday evening, there was a good attendance, Mr C. E. Calcutt (President) boing in the chair. The report and balance-sheet stated that although the club had not been successful in winning any competition the pe-rfcTinances of the various teams were highly creditable, and the fact that the club was a very close runnerup for the Petersen Shield; showed that it held good positions in every grado. So good all-round , had 1 been the club's performances that had, another point been obtained by either of the first or teams the club would have won the district championship of "the year. The nrstgrado team was again runner-up, scoring fourteen points to West Christchurch's oifihteen. The membership of the club was 114, there being tfi (active and 46 honorary members. The receipts for tho year wore */io>. (xi, and tho expenditure £152 lie Id, leaving <a debit balance of £14 5s Id, this amount, however, being smaller than the debit balance at tho ena of the previous season.
Referring to the recent visit of the toam from tho Marylebono Club, Cue chairman said: that from the point oi view of cricket the visit was successful, but the financial result was not satisfactory. He understood there was a schorao on foot in the shape of an art union to raiso funds towar<ls wiping off the deficiency, and! ho hoped the cJuos members would give their assistance to tho scheme.
The election of officers and committees for the ensuing yoar resulted as follows:—Patron, Sir T. Coverdale; president, Mr O. E. Calcutt; vice-pre-sidents, Messrs A. it. Turnbull and F. M. Warren; club captain, Mr J. C. Clarkson; secretary, Mr O. Oaygill; treasurer, Mr J. B. Brinsden; committee, Messrs Harper, Francis, Iv. S. 'Williams, W. B. Clarkson, E. H. Seager, E. R. Caygill and S. J. Smith; delegates to Canterbury Cricket Association, Messrs J. C. uarkson; 0. uaygill, K. 8. Williams and) J. B. Brinsden; Senior Selection Committee, Mr 0. CaygiU, with captains of first and second grade teams; Junior Selection Committee, Mr 0. Caygill, with captains of third and! fourth grade teams; auditors, Messrs Thornton and Fulton; delegates to Sports' Protection Association, Sir J. B. Brinsden. The following trophies were presented during tho evening:—Riccarton Cup, Mr W. B. Clarkson : captain of tho first grade team (which won tho cup for the season 1906-7); bat, Mr Anthony (the plqyer whose play had contributed moat to the success of the team winning the Riccarton Cup); patron's bat, Sir \V. N. Seay (the "colt" showing most improvement during tho season).
