SEMI-JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS. The semi-Jubileo of the Oxford terrace Baptist Church was celebrated yesterday evening. Proceedings were opened with a tea meeting in the schoolroom, and subsequently the memtxjrs adjourned to tii>o ctiuich, where a social evening was held-, interspersed with speeches by office-bearers of the church. Air Ingold, the secretary, gave an aocoun.t of the growth of the chiwch since 1870 ami the removal from Hereford street to the present site. Mr Chidgcy, the treasurer, detailed the financial position of the church since tho schoolroom was burnt down about two years ago. They then had on mortgage £700, and on the general account nearly £100, making £800. This was the amount the church was in debt when the schoolroom wae destroyed. They re-built at a cost of £'2600, and that made the debt £3-100. Tho speaker detailed tho various amounts raised since that time by subscriptions ami otherwise, and the congregation had now the satisfaction of lmowing that they had a credit balanco The Rev. J. C. Martin said that ho visited the church with great diffidence that evening, though he had responded to the invitation with t.he createst pleasure. Ho paid a tribute to the founders of tho church for their work in its early dnys. and hoped that tho good work which had boon cirriod on by them in* Christchurch would be e:igcrly taken up by the present members of the church. The social proved very successful, and a pleasant evening was spent.
