METHVEN
At the Magistrate's Giurt on Thursday, before Mr A. Murray, J.P., John Hayne.s, who. on the 27th ult., had been remand'd by Mr W. Morgan, J.P., on a chargo of having been found at Mount So mors in a state of helple-sa clrunkennetss, was convicted and order©! to pay costs. On Friday a special train brought the remains of the late Mr J. Holmes for burial in the Methven cemetery. Th© funeral was largely attended by frip'K's from Christchurch and this district. Ihe funeral of the late Mrs Edward Hcer took place at Mcthven on Sunday afternoon. Mrs lleer, who wars ono of the first women residents in this district, wil l b© greatly nii.-wed by he! many old friends, and there ar© many who havo benefited by her kuidncss ancl help.
