MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., presided at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. Thomas Richard Savage pleaded guilty to having entered licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order. The Magistrate imposed a fino of 40s and costs. William Murphy (Mr Malley) was chargrd with entering licensed premises during the currency of a prohibition order; also with procuring liquor. The Magistrate fined accused 40s and costs on the first charge, and convicted and discharged him on the second count. Michael Murphy was charged with being a rogue and a vagabond, anil with having imposed upon ono John Goodall Jerratt with a view to obtain money. Harry Baker, printing clerk to Whitconibo and Tombs, said that on DeeemlKM- 29th accused came to his shop end got an estimate for printing 2500 copies of bis guide. Detective Bishop said that on March 29th last he, in company with actingDt'te.tive Kennedy, arrested the accused and told him that there would be six or seven other charges laid against him. On searching him he found that ho had tlie names of lIS peoplo and had collected £29 10s from thorn for advertisements. Mr Harper submitted that thero was no charge to answer, as the defendant fully intended to get the book printed. Davis was fined 40s and 203 respectively for two breaches of the Shops and 'Offices Act. Nathan Clegg was fined 20s and costs for failing to register' his factory at Hornby, and 10s for failing to notify tho Inspector of Factories that a fatal accident had occurred nt his fnctory. Alioo Woodward was fined 5s and costs for a breach of the Factories Act. Henry William Mn.on applied for a maintenance order against ttiis wife and son. The applioation was dismissed. A charge of wifo desertion against William George Kidd was also dismissed. Maurice William Edwards was ordered to contribute at tlie rato of 15c. a week towards the support of his wife and family.
