THE EXHIBITION ORGAN.
A DUNEDIN PROTEST (special to "tite press.") DUXFDIN, Juno 10. The "Star," in a leading article on tho Exhibition orgnn, says:—"lt is not surprising to hoar that the people of Christchurch are disposed to resent the attitude adopted by tho Government towards-tho request for thr* handing over of the Exhibition organ to the city authorities. The delayed decision of the Cabinet is causing intense dissatisfaction in the city? says -Mr C. M. Gray, M.H.R., and'though wp do not for a moment behove that the Government will eventually disown the late Mr Seddon's pledge, unequivocally ,ciren at the laving of the foundation stono of *tho Exhibition, wo cannot conceive what object they expect to 6erro by the churlish reluctance they are displaying. Surely Sir Joseph Ward's presence is not necessary for the settlement of this comparatively trivial matter. If it be suggested on the other hand that there is no nerd for hurry, the answer is to be found in the remonstrance just addressed by Mr Gray to the Minister for Education. Mr Gray rightly opines that tho Cabinet can hardly be still in doubt regarding tlie validity ef Mr Petitions engagement, that point having been conclusively established by the deptitution that waited upon Mr Foivlds some weeks ago. Consequently the Christchurch citizens are unable to understand why tho Government should so long delay in gracefully giving effect to the late Premier's promise. Gracefulness is out of the question now. but this deficiency will bo overlooked if the Government do their duty in the matter without further belatedness. Of course the people of Dunedin are not immediately concerned, but they would be very much annoyed if they wero treated in a similar fashion, nnd we think it only right H fortify the representations of the Christehurch complainants."
