MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES.
, 4 THE SUPERANNUATION SCHEME. (SPECIAL TO "TITE TRESS.") DUNEDIN, Juno 10. The Mayor (Mr Loudon) warmly approves Mr Leslie's proposals in respect of the 6chemo for municipal superannuation. He said he haa always felt that something in the direction indicated should bo done, because iij many oases apparent hardships were inflicted on faithful servants jvno had to be retired solely on tho dgore of. ago - and inefficiency of work, ,08 compared "with younger men. He was also of opinion" that the proposition" could be better dealt with as a New Zealand one. Ho thought -contributions from employees should be supplemented to come extent by the Corporations, and that eomething.in tho way of a surrender value or return of contributions should be given to retiring servants, either by death or other causes, before the ago of 65 years. Ho also considered that any echemo would bo incomplete which did not provide in some measure for those above or near the ago limit fixed, without forcing them to pay higher premiums based on actuarial principles.
