RECENT RAILWAY MISHAPS.
THE COLLISION AT BANKSIDE. (special to ''the press.") WELLINGTON, June 8. J. Meikle and A. Seaman, driver and guard respectively on a Southward bound train which collided with another at Banksido some time ago, have been dismissed from the service. Moiklo was interviewed by a "Post" reporter to-d«y, and strongly condemned the laxity in the sj-stem of giving drivers instructions, and tho inadequacy of tho time allowed to get ongines in order, and fully acquaint oneself with 6uch instructions. The whole sj-glem, he cays, requires radical alteration. The driver's duties, are ac important as thoee of the captain of a ship, if not more co, end every time an engine-driver loaves tho ehods ho runs the risk of a charge of manslaughter. Hβ further etated that the engine sheds in Christchurch were totally inadequate and the long lists of instruction papers had to be aceimilated in far too short a time. THE ACCIDENT~AT WAIPAHI. (press association teleguam.) INVERCARGILL, June 9. Mr J. A. Hanan, M.H.R., is advised that a decision has been given in regard to the recent railway mishap at Waipahi. It is understood that the driver has been dismissed, and the fireman reinstated.
