TECHNICAL CLASSES
Tbe Board of Manage™ of the Technical Classes met last ©Toning, Dr Hight presiding. The Chairman reported that Mr Minsou and Mr Gaffnoy had vacated thou seats on the Board, aud that in their places Mr Buchanan had been elected by th. Industrial Association, and Mr B-coham by tho Sumner Borough Councii. They were now almo6t within a month of tbe completion of tho building contract, and the builder anticipated that toe work would be practically finished by date. The Bean! would thon be iin a position-to start the day school. Mr Adams, who hod , been taking tho English classes, tormeily conducted by Dr Dak in, had asked to bo allowed to resign, owing to the pressure of other work. The Chairman had concurred in the suggestion of the Director that Mr Newton should bo roliered of the class in mechanical drawing, and placed in charge of these English classes at a slightly moroaeod remuneration, and that Mr Bridge, instructor in cabinotmaking, should be given the class in mechanical drawing He had inetrnotod tlie Director to apply to the Education Board for pemiiasioai to use for the wool-sorting class one of the unoccupied rooms at the South Belt school. The report waa adopted. Messrs Buchanan and Denham wore appointed members of the Claes ami Finance Committeos respectively. Messrs Buchanan and Barlow were added to the Building Committee. Tho Director reported that sixtythree new student© had joined, making the total for the year 369. The roll numbers in the trade classes were:— woolclassing, 29; plumbing, 19; cabinotmakiing, 18; carpentry and joinery, 17 : carriage painting, 14; carriage building, 9. The resignation of Mr Irwin, instructor in Gregg's shorthand, was reported. Mr Moore, instructor in woodwork to the Education Board, was appointed instructor in building construction and drawing, Mr G. J. Dennis in tailors' cutting, Mi* Bridge in woodwork, Mi_" Rose in domestic science, Mr Newtom. assistant master, and Mr Park, assistant master, to take commercial and general subjects, at £150 a year, special arrangements being made for tho 6hortliand and typewriting classes. It was decided that a clerk be appointed to assist with the office work, at a salary not exceeding £150. The Building Committee ropcxrte.i that a seventh progress payment of £500 had been mado; that water supply had been laid on; and that the heating apparatus was being fixed by the oontractora. Tlie treasurer's statement showed:— Balance on April 29th, £279 4s 10-1, receipts, £1733 3a lOd; and expenditure, £1181 la Bd, leaving a credit balanoe on May 31st of £552 2s 2d. Accounts were passed for payment totalling £88.
