MR J. R. SINCLAIR.
Mr J. R. Sinclair is not a public man in the ordinary sense of the term. He is simply known to the general bouy of Dunedin citizens aa a member of tUe former well-known legal firm of Smith Chapman, Sinclair, and Whit*.. -«ir -Sinclair hirnetlf was the solicitor on behalf of the city corporation and other suburban boroughs, and for the dramage hoard! at its initiation. In this capacity lie has had the compilingof several large schemes, such as t.e inauguration and expenditure of hundreds of thousands of pounds on «.».»• trauiwav service and .drainage scheme. His duties to the citizens were largely carried out as a member of the Otago High Schools Board, of which ho has been chairman for some years. He J8 a quiet retiring man, and one whose political view* are an unknown quantity. He has never expressed himf* on any of the main questions of the day. He retired from the firm some months ago. He is a director in a number of financial companies, which givo him a business insight and a reco_ni_ed mercantile knowledge.
