NEW REGULATIONS REGARDING DEPOSITS.
(■nCIAL TO THE MtBSS. ; _js WELLINGTON. September 18. r| The Minister for Labour. (Mr Millar?'"l inform*; mo. that ho haa decided relax the conditions in regard to th_.deposits required from applicants for-, workers' dwellings. Under the existing regulation applicants are required ■ to make a deposit on appUcxtism, and, as *vas shown in regard to tie recent" Petone fiasco, this amounted in some cases to over £3. Under the new regulation proposed by the Minister no deposit will l>e required until an applicant draws a house. The amount which he will be called upon tojdeposifc wHI be £1, in addition to the license fee of £1 Is. Mr Millar say* this will test the accuracy of the statement that the paucity of applications for tho Petone dwellings was dne to the heavy deposit renuired from applicants. Tho new regulations will, of course, apply to the applications for the homes which - aro to be shortly balloted for in other parts of the colony.
