Good progress is being mado with tho largo building in St. Asaph street west for tho Farmers , Saleyards Company, Ltd., and tho contractors, Messrs Campbell Bres.. should have tho work completed within contract time. The building, fpr which Messrs England Bros, are tho architects, is of a most substantial character. It comprises a hori-o parade lCSft long by 42ft wide, and 011 one eido of this there will bo 4100 ft of floor epaco for the. purposes of poultry, pig, ekin, and other eales, and tho floor will bo concreted, so as to allow of flushing. On the other eido there will bo a similar space, to bo devoted to the display of fruit, produce, etc., for sale. Above each of these floors there is a loft 127 ft long by 26ft wide, to bo used for storage purposes. Provision is to be mado, including etalls and loos© boxes, for accommodating 110 horses, and the entrance for these will be from Tuam street, so that those who have to attend tho yards for other business while horso sales aro in progress, will not rim any dancor from the movements of the animals. In tho front of the building are four shops, .and above these two rooms, each 44ft by 24ft, which will be available for meeting purposes. The outer walls and front portion of tho buildings aro of substantial brickwork, and tho lofts and main roof are supported by heavy jarrah pillars, with, iron girders, which carry tho roof over tho parade. Tho buildings, which cover a little over half an acre, will bo well lighted from the roof and from tho ends, and, whon completed, will be tho most up-to-dato of the kind in fhe colcny. The contract price was £4500. There are eiow 1280 shareholders on the list, who hold 4100 £1 shares, and it is anticipated that shortly the number will bo increased to JSOO sharoshar«>holders, amj the number of chares to COOO. /All tho auctioneers are being invited to conduct sales at the yards, and it is intended that each department shall bo under the supervision of a committee, consisting of representatives of the shareholders and salesmen. It is anticipated that tho yards will bo opened about tho middle of October.
