FIRES.

An alarm of fire was given about 3 a.m. yesterday from a box near the Ca versus m Hotel. Tho Brigade turned out and found a small shop-and dwelling in Madras street, near George streot, on fire. Before the flames could bo extinguished the shop was completely destroyed. The premises had been occupied up till Saturday list, the shop being used as a fish shop. The building is owned by Mr Hulston. tobacconost, and was insured for £260. Tho furniture was insured for £60, both policies being with tiio London, Liverpool and Globe Company, . An ala-rm of fire was given at Lyttelton yesterday at 1.30 p.m.,'the cause being a big flare up in a tarpot at tho foot of No. 2 wharf, where taT was being boiled for treating the screenings wihach are being put down on the wharf as a be— : for the now decking. Tho Brigade tunned out and! extinguished the blaze before any great damage waß done.
