LICENSING COMMITTEES.

Tho quarterly meeting of tho Lyttelton Lioonsing Committee was held in the Court house at noon yeaterdvy. Present: Messrs H. W. Bishop, S.JI. (chairman), P. Pender, C. Cook, J. Richardson, S. W. Mitchell and W. H. R. Dalo. A transfer of the license of tho British Hotel, Lyttelton, from F. F. Keppler to D. J. Kelleher was granted. Mr Malley appeared .for tlie applicant. Annie Fiedler applied for a renewal of tho 1 icon so of tlie Marino Hotel, Sumner. Mr Hunt appeared for Mrs Fiedler, and Mr Cassridy tor Messrs Fletcher, Humphreys and Company, owners of the Marine Hotel. At the annual meeting tlie committee had refused to renew the license, on the ground that the house was out of repair. In the meantime the committee had visited the hotel and decided what should be done to put the place in repair. Mr Cassidy stated that Mr Humphreys had cabled from Paris that he preferred putting up a new building to repairing the old one, but he wished personally to supervise the plans for a new structure. Ho was expected to arrive back in New Zealand in November. Mr Bishop stated that tho oommitteo felt that it would be inconsistent for them, having condemned the building, to renew the license of the hotel in its present condition, and they had unanimously decided to adjourn the application until the next quarterly meeting, in December. The quarterly meeting of the committee for the Courtenay district was hold yesterday . Present—Messrs V. G. Day, S.M., Sanndrey, Bailey, Reid, and Gotigh. . Transfers were granted of the Islington Hotel from, James Poll to John S*muol /"August; Halswell Hotel, from Perpival Charles Triggs to .Patrick Costih", and PrebbletonHotel, from Eliza Mary: Teresa Post to Robert Thomas Day. On tho recommendation of tho secretary of tho Courtenay Show Committee a conditional . license wis granted to Arthur J. Marshall for the 15th November. Plans for a new building for the Prebbleton Hotel were submitted and approved. Other meetings of Licensing Committees will bo held as follows .•—Christchuroh to-day, Ricoartcn to-morrow, and Avon on Saturday. All the meetings will be bold at .noon.
