DUNEDIN NOTES.
(SPECIAL TO "THE rBKSS.") DUNEDIN, August 13. Forty-seven applicants for employment registered at the Dur.edin office of the Labour Bureau last week. This is a distinct rise from the minimum of the winter season, though r the increase so far is not serious. The importance of the position is that there does not seem to be much of a demaud for labour just now m Otago— at any rate for now applicants.—and fresh arrivals from Australia have but a fair chance of immediate employment if they come over "on 6pec." It is intended that tho welcome to the Hon. J. A. Millar to-morrow evening shall be non-partisan in. character, and that it shall bo participated in by representatives of all classes and sections of the people. The Mayer will preside. There will bo a few toasts and plenty of music.
