CHRISTCH URCH POULTRY CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING. Tli© annual meeting of the Oiristchurch Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Club took place last night. Mr E. J. Ross, president, was in the chair, and there was a good attendance. Tho annual report congratulated the club on its comt-inut-d prosperity. Thero wero now tun life and 234 active members. The twenty-nine mee-.higa of tho club had been extremely well attended. In reply to enquiries,* tho Exhibition authorities had declared that the season during which the Exhibition would bo open was the wrong one for a poultry show. The club's executive considered the Exhibition management had showed a lack of judgment in not meeting uhe club to discuss the question. A very good show might have been hdd. Two egg-laying competitions wero in progress at present in the colony. With regard to tho fear tQiat these competitions might bo detrimental to exhibitions, there was no necessity for fear in this respect, as the time was noit far distant when the modern bird with exhibition characteristics must again bo used to improve the typo of the present so-called layers. Tho laying qualities of theso competition birds certainly showed improvement, but at the expense of the bird, which had been so reduced in size that for general utility purposes it was quite lost. The annual show as a gigantic success. The balance-sheet showed receipts £004 18s, and expenditure £623 18s 2d, leaving a credit balance of £70 19s lOd. It was suggested that the poultry exhibited tit tho club's shows he rung with rings supplied by tho elu'b. Thanks were duo to the judges and others who had worked for the club.

Tho report and balance-sheet wore adopted, on the motion of Mr E. J. Ross, seconded by Mr A. Walker. Mr E. J. Ross said thai before retiring from office he had to mako a prescxttiationi to the secretary, Mr Monzies, and tho treasurer, Mr Clarkson. Ik>t.h these gentlemen had worked very hard for the club for some yea-re. They were now retiring, being unable to continue the work, and it had been decided to allow them the recognition of the club. Mr Ross then presented to Mr 'Mcai-ies- a silver -salver, and to Mr Clarkson a gold watch, suitably inscribed. Both gentlemen expressed their gratitude to the club. Tho election of officers resulted as follows:- —Patron, Lord Flunket; president, Mr Arthur Ga.pes; vice-presi-dents, Messrs A. W. Rutherford, M.H.R., It. H. Rhodes. M.H.R., Dr. Russell, Messrs A. E. Earn-how, S. 0. Kesteven, G. Butcher, E. J. Ross, V. Hickmott, Tyree, J. McLean A. Walker; lion, auditor Mr 8. C. Ke-stevon; hon. treasurer, Mr A. A. Clarkson (on condition that his resignation be accepted if he found it necessary to resign). It was resolved that a pa.id secretary bo appoinlted for the future. On the motion of Mr Clarkson, it was resolved that a secretary be advcirtised for, and that a commii-t.toe, consisting of Messrs Ross, Menzics, Smit-h, Gapes, and Clarkson recomjnond a secretary to the club.
