' Prior to the race for the Worthing Plate, the horse' Marigold IV. collided with the filly Centre, unseating her jockey, H. 0. Madden. Marigold then savagely attacked (the fallen man, biting him badly in £he face and neck. *
Madden, who wee riding Centre, stater that Marigold suddenly reared and caught him in the .neck and pulled him off the saddle, and knelt orer him, biting him savagely.
Another jockey states that .Marigold kept picking up iMadden amd shaking faun like a rat.
Brady, Marigold's rider, jumped off, and attacked (Marigold with a whip, finally beating the horse off, otherwise Madden would undoubtedly have been killed.
Marigold IV. is a five-year-old horse by Miroir de Portugal—Mies Margaret. He only nn once last aoeson, and was then defeated. - . ' Herbert Otto Maddeax was last year •second on the list of winning jockeys, being credited with 119. wine out of .702 mounte. " B. Whealiley wee first with 124 wine in 693 mounte. Madden had secured first honours in four yeare previously, with 96 wins in 1900, 130 in 1901, 164 in 1903, and 161 in 1904. In 1902 he did not ride.
