ASSOCIATION RULES.

After continual postponements, owing to the water-logged condition of the grounds in the South Park, a start was made with tho Canterbury Shield Competition on Saturday, when the Celtic and Christehurch Chile met. One ground wae still unplayable, but these teams played on tho oast pitch. The conditions prevented any good football, but tho match was keenly contested throughout, Christchurch winning by 2 goals to 1. Celtic were unfortunate in being two men short, the absence of Raoburn particularly rendering Harvey's attacks ineffective. The first score was by Newell after a well played free kick lV Forrest. Later in the first spell Blytho equalised for Celtic from a , nicely placed corner. In tho second half, Webb was successful from a pass by Hill, and this was the last goal registered Seymour and Newell both had hard luck with some excellent shots, one apparently certain score by the latter player landing in a pool of water at the very mouth of the goal. Forrest played a first-rate game for tho winners, getting in somo beautiful kicks at times, and McCreanor, W. Ramsay, and Wood did good service for tho Celtic. Mr A. Stark was referee. Noxt week Sydenham and GJeltic Clubs meet in the same competition.
