BURYING THE DEAD.

Tho San Francisco correspondent of the Vancouver "World," telegraphing on April 2lHh, .statwl:—"Between 20 nnd 30 corpses were laid eido by side on tho grass in the Golden Gate Park for the lack of a more suitable place for their tempoiary rosting place. Out at tne Presiilio, soldiers pressed into service all men who came near tho Presidio and forced them to labour at burying tno dead. iio thickly were the corpses piled up that they were becoming a menace, and early in the day tho order was issued to bury them at any cost. The soidiers were needed for other work, so at tho point of rifles the citizens were compelled to take to tho work of burying. Some objected at first, but tho troops stood no trifling, and every man who came within roach was forced to work at leiast an hour. Rich men. who had nover done much work, laboured by the side of working men digging trenches in tho sand for tho last resting place of thoso who fell before the awful calamity. Many still remain unburied, and the soldiers are still press ing men into service."
