A MAYORAL PROCLAMATION
Mayor Schmidt issued the following prooaniation on April 21st:—"Do not Ik; afraid of famine. There will bo abundance of focd supply. Do not UK , any A\ater except lcr drinking and cooking purposes. Do not light nuv iires in etove.s or fire-niaces. Do not ii'C any house closets under any circuniFtauco..-, but uig oarth closets in yaids. cr vacant lots, n.-ing. if pop.sible, cliloride of lime or some other disinfectant. This is of the greatest importance, ami the water supply is only i-tiflicifut for drinking and cooking. Do not allow any garbage to remain on the premises: hury it and cover immediately. Pe>ti!ence can only bo avoided by complying with these regulations. You are particularly requested not to outer biiMmti huii&es or dwellings except your own. as you may bo mistaken for <Yiio of the looters and shot on yight. as the orders are not to arrest but to shoot down anyone caught stealing."
