<> At the monthly meeting of tho Ashburton County Council there were present—Mossns C. J. Harper (chairman), 8: S. Ciiapmau, J. Cairns, E. Gates, J. C. JS : . Grigg, \V. J. Dickie, J. Lambie, M. Stiti, and W. Morgan. Tlie question of the largo in rabbits in tlie upper pails ot the county came up lor di.-cu.s.on. On tho motion of Mr Gates it was decided to supply poisoned pollard free for tho destruction of rabbiis. Correspondence relative to tho Hinds, Liamore, Carew, Doric, Wakanui, and Rakaia telephone services was read, and the connection between Carew and tho Ealing telegraph htation was approved. Mr L&mbio offered to pay half the subsidy lor. tho Ka-kaia-Dorie service, in order that the work should be put in hand at once. Mr R. Miller, a large exporter ot hares, waited on tho Council with reference to the Council paying a subsidy on hares' tails. Ho said that he would not export at all this season if the hares wero mutilated, and ho woulo. not in any case ship a bare without the tail. The chairman, Mr Stitt, and Mr Grigg wero appointed a committee to arrange for the basis on which hares should bo paid for. Mr Cairns paid in half the oast for the Wakanui-Riverside telephone service, and the Council decided to pay the other half of the subsidy, in order that the work could bo put in hand without delay. Jt waa decided to postpone dealing with a number of applications for water races till next meeting.
