FIRE FIGHTING ABANDONED.
FASHIONABLE SUBURBS DESTROYED.
(Received April 20th, 11.2 p.m.) NEW YORK, April 20. Though many blocks of buildings were dynamited during the night by th© firemen for the purpose of checking th© fire, th© flames ovcrleapt all obstacles. The firemen have, therefore, bean obliged to abandon all hope of controlling tlie fire. The fashionable suburbs of Mall Park, Burlinghame, and Nob Hill, have been destroyed. Most of tho towns around the Bay suffered by tlie earthquake. The newspaper staffs of the city combinod to issue a single print through the office of th© "Chronicle." This was don© until th© office of the "Chronicle" collapsed yesterday.
