SUMMARY FOR MARCH. (nuSS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. April 19. The Rev. D. C. Bates, in hie meteorological summary for March ehowa Uuit the totnl rainfall for the month was generally below tho average, and tJie weather changeable, but on tho whole more chilly and duller than is usually experienced in mid-autumn in New Zealand. Tho mean monthly temperatures at Wellington, Auckland, and Dunedin were about the lowest ever recorded at those cities for the month of March in the previous forty-three yearn, and these following tho low temperature records of February, already constitute a remarkably cold autumn reason for this year. Tho conditions, however, were, not co severe as the bare report* would lead strangers unacquainted with our climate to imagine. Taking Wellington as an example, 57 deg. F. mean- monthly temperature for March, last, which is the lowest on record, is only 3.5 deg. below the mean for the month. During the past monitli the highest temperature, at Wellington *ac 71.8 dog. end the lowest 40 dog., with a mean daily range of 12.2 deg. In the early part, of the month, low barometric pressure brought abundant rains in the North Island (excepting in Taranaki) and in the South Island. This was followed by snow on the mountains and frosts in the valleys. The roiddlo portion of the month, was generally fine and calm, followed by general rains and cold weather till the end of tfra month. In Central Otago and on the West Coast of the South Island tho rainfall was much below the average of tlie month for those parte.
