TREES ON THE CANAL RESERVE.
TO TUB KDITOR OF "THK TRESS." Sir, —After reading your sub-leader in "The Press' on Thursday about Arbor Day and tree-planting, I would liko to call the attention oi the Be an drying Association, the City Council, and the Heathcote Road Board to the Canal Reserve from the river to Aldwin's road. There are a few walnut trees on the city sido struggling for an existence, as they liave never been looked after since they wore planted, and as a consequence some of them have been broken down and destroyed. Now, as tbe time of year is approaching when tree-planrine: can be done, would it not bo a good thing to replant whore they havo been destroyed, and plant the other side with Oriental planes or chestnuts, or some other good avenue tret*. Then, as it is not hkely that it will ever be used as a canal at that part, we could call it Hdwnrd Avenue, or some such name. However, seeing that the west side of the city is so well provided with trees, could we not havo a little shelter and shade on tho east side as well Yours etc., A LINWOOD RESIDENT.
