BAND OF HOPE DEMONSTRATION.

' ♦ — The annual demonstjiation of tlie Canterbury Band of Hope Union, took place yestei*cray. The weather was beautifully fine, and there was a very largo attendance. The display made by conic of the Bands of Hope for the prizes wore very good, particularly the decorated bicycles. THE PROCESSION. G.T. Adult Lodge 40, other aocieties 300, Salvation Army Band 18, Adddngtcai Mefchodißt Band 16; total 1504. The judges, Dr. Russell! and Mr McCoonihs, awarded the prizes as follows:— General dlisplay: Greece nit Rc_d 1, East Belt 2. Temperance di_rj!_y on wheels: Cresoantb Road 1, Knox CSHuTch 2. Bicycle display: Crescent Road 1, East Belt 2. SPEECHES IN THE PARK. In tihe afternoon a meeting- was held at which several prominent members of the No-license party spoke. Mr J. T. Smith was in the ©hair, and wirth __m on tihe pM-fonn were Mr Field, Mr H. G. Ell, M.H.R., tihe Rev. F. W.-Isttt,-Major Mackenzie of the Salvation Army, and Mr T. E. Taylor.
