SCHOOL COMMITTEES.
At fho last meeting of the Sydenham School Committee, the 'he_dmaister reported the number on the role to be 995, and the average attendance 887. It was resolved that tlio committee could not see it a way to grant permission to Mr Illijjh to deliver an address to tlio elder childiren in the fchool during school hours. Mr J. Butter-eld wa.s appointed to represent the committee at a meeting to arrange for tree planting on Arbor Day. It was resolved to ask the Board to erect porches nt the doors on the south side of tho old building!?, and to renew several of the floors.
At the last meeting of the Halswell School Committee, Mr W. F. Qua if o reing in the chair, the attendance was reported to be very regular and increasing. It was resolved to reply to the Board of Education that there was ample space in the school grounds for tho proposed batih, and that the committee would have ample funds. Membpre of the Board were invited to inspect the site, and approve of tho proposal, the funds being derived from enbscriptions and the proceeds of an art union sanctioned by the Colonial Secretary.
