KAIAPOI CYCLING CLUB'S SPORTS.

Glorious weather favor.r.d the Cycling Club's annual sports, held at Kaiapoi Park on Ea.ster Monday, and there was a vorv large attendance. The gite takings were £129 6s 3d. The entries totalled two bundled and forry, and all the events on the programme were well competed tor. The greatest interest centred in the cycling:. Tlio five mile championship resulted in a splendid -trugglo between Wyatt. A nut and Baker, the latter getting home amid a loud cheer. The five mile race for motors was won by C. E. Jones on a 2 h.p. ' Mitchell." Tho two mile Ka-ter Wheel Race, rafter an interesting finish, was won hy liaker, who beat H. Arnst for the second time in tho day's racing. R. Arnst's first attempt to lower the mile motor-paced record of lmin 4G'*c, failed by fere, hut. he had a second try with a faster motor, and lowered the record by 1 1-oth sec. Tlie gold medal for two mile amateur handicap was won by L. lln*"* "200 yds, with a couple of yards to spare. The ten mile motor race, in which Byrne, Jones, Ritchie and Chalmers started, wais not finished. Byrne and Chalmers had retired half through the race, and Jonos and Ritchie were running into the seventh mile when tho petrol pipe of tiie machine ridden by Jones disconnected, and man and machine wero enveloped in flame.
