A FATAL FALL.
A man named John Friend, familiarly known as "Jockey Jack," met with a fatal accident on Thursday night. He was engaged at the Canterbury Hall in fixing scenery for tho Stephenson Opera Company, when ho fell from tho top staging, a balcony at the back of tho stage, some 40ft or 50ft high. He sustained a fractured skull. Dr. Shone was sent for, but before ho arrived life was extinct. An inquest was held yesterday afternoon by Mr H. W. Bishop, Coroner, and a. verdict of occidental death was returned. Deceased wa6 well known in Christchurch. He was at ono time a jockey, and later travelled with tho Pollard Opera. Company. doing odd jobs. Ho was unmarried, and about 32 years of age.
