FIRES.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TXUCOKAM.) INVERCARGILL, March 24. The rabbit-packing establishment and manure department of the Southland Frozen Meat Co.'s works at Mataura were destroyed by fire at half-pact tire this morniug. The contents, comprising tallow, oil, manure, and offal, axe a total loes. The main works were saved by the oompany'e own fire aerrioe. The insurance on the building was £1250 in tho State Department, and. on the contents £1120 in the Royal, and £900 in tho South Britieh. The lose is estimated at £1000 above the insurances. The work of rebuilding will be undertaken immediately. The freezing and electrical department* (tho latter supplying light to Gore and Mataura) were uninjured. The cause is unknown, but the fire ie supposed to have originated near the boiler furnace.
