LICENSING ELECTIONS.

FINAL NOMINATIONS. Nominations for licensing committees dosed yesterday. The following particulars give the effect of 'local-reports and Press Association messages:— Christchurch—No new nominations were made. The candidates' are ten in number, five being for eleven o'clock closing and the' other five for ten o'cloclcf"-'-'-'•'-''-- •--•■'■'''■'■'•■■?-v ■■-"■ Kaiapoi—Messrs W. Buss. J. W. Foster, 0. Leech, W. Doubleday, and R. Coup were nominated, and declared elected. . ■ Selwyn—The old comn_ttee has been ire-elected. Mr Joseph Evans was also nominated, but withdrew. Hurunui —There were no nominations. Ger_ldine—The old Licensing Commibtea has been, re-elected. Feeling in tbe district is in favour of ten o'clock licenses. ■ • Gisborne—Ten candidates have been nominated, of whom five represent the moderates, fouT are nominated by the No-license party, and one is .an independent candidate representing the Nolicense section- . ' -~ ■""'■,.' Napier and Hawke's Bay—The oW committee has beea returned in each case, namely:—Messrs A. L. Fraser, M.H.R., W. C. Maddison, T. Howard, 0. A. Fitzroy, and C. L. Mackersey, for Hawke's Bay, and Messrs G.-A. Maodonald, H. Williams, H. J. Holder, C. D. Kennedy, and J. J. Niven for Napier. Both oommittees are of modorate views. The Nc4icense party did not put forward any candid-tes.in etcher district, and the committees were elected unopposed. . Hawera —A compromise was effected between the No-license and Liquor parties, whereby the latter have three and the former two members on tho committee. The Victuallers have agreed to ten o'clock licenses. . Dannevirke—The following have been nominated for the Waipawa Licensing Committee:—Messrs C. E. Baines, 8. Franklin, L. McKay, A. W. Skerman, G. Wratt, A. W. Collett, Rev.. A. Grant, C. E. Pettersen, Pastor Rica, and C. C. Smith. The latter five are nominees of the Prohibition party. _ Wanganui—The former Licensing Committee has been re-elected, there having been no other candidates. Palmerston North—Six moderates, two independent-, and four straight-out prohibitionists have been nominated. Greymouth—The members of the old Licensing Bench were declared elected Westland—Five moderates and three prohibitionists ware nornin_ted. It is understood, however, that suhsequently an arrangement was arrived at by which two moderates and one pronibitioni_t will retire, making an. election unnecessary. Waikouarta —The moderate and Nolicense parties have each nominated a full committee for Waikouaiti, where reduction waa carried. Caversham—Seven nomination- have been received. Bruce—There will be no contest, tbe No-license party's nominees having beeaccepted. -.
