GENERAL BOOTH'S VISIT.
' ——a- r-r-.0--. -' A MESSAGE TO EMIGRANTS. Three services were held by General * Booth in the Victoria Square: Barracks yesterday, the hall being in all cases packed to the doors. ' The General preached with great earnestness and eloquence, and obviously appealed-very strongly to the emotions of his audience. In the evening his discourse had to do with the stronghold of temporal . interests upon mankind, to the exclusion of spiritual welfare.-' He showed how men and women 'of to-day will almost invariably shape their conduct in life ""solely on the basis of what appears to them to be most favourable to the advancement of their worldly advantage. Yesterday morning the General asked for the prayers of Salvationists in New Zealand oh behalf of the first batch of one thousand emigrants selected" from the agricultural, industrial, and labouring classes of Great Britain, and sent under the auspices of the Salvation Army to Canada. They leave London to-morrow. The General sent tiiem the following cable . message:-— " God carry you safely to your new homes. Fearlessly calculate on hard work, and bravely meet your difficulties. Do your duty by your families. Help your weaker comrades. Make Canada your home. Be a credit,to the Old Land. Put God first.: Stand by the Salvation Army. Save your souls. Meet mc in Heaven. (Signed) William Booth, General of. the Salvation Army." To-day and to-morrow Officers' Councils, will be held. On Thursday there will be a council of staff officers and in the evening General Booth Will leave for Wellington.
