United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, April 24. The death is announced of Joseph Jefferson, the aotor, aged 76 years. [Joseph Jefferson was one of the most celebrated—perhaps the most celebrated—of American actors. He appeared on the stage at a very early age, and gradually rose to the front rank as a comedian. His range of characters was very wide, covering the entire field of comedy and farce. His most famous role was that of Rip Van Winkle in Mr Dion Boucioauifs play. He was also particularly successful as Bob Acres in "The Rivals," Dr. Pan-, gloss in "The Heir at Law," and Caleb Plummer in " The Cricket on the Hearth." He visited England on more than one occasion, and paid a visit to Australia and New Zealand. In this colony, however, he only visited Dunedin.]
