THE VOLUNTEERS.
* Parades of Nos. 1 and 2 North Canterbury Infantry Battalions were held on Saturday afternoon. The Bat- ! talions mustered in the Drillyard at 2.30, the following being the parade states:—No. 1 Battalion: Stuff-Litetenant-Colonel Day, Oaptain and Adjutant Merton, Captain Quartermaster Batchelor, Quartermaster Shand, and Bugler-Seirgeant Molloy; City Guards, Captain Bishop," 23; College Rifles, Oaptam Richardson,27; City Rifles, 'Lieutenant Steer, 13; Imperial Kiflcs, Lieutenant Butcher, 28; Cyclists, Lieutenant Yon SierakowHki, 13. Total, 109. No. 2 BnttaJion: Staff-Major G. J. Smith, Captain and Adjutant Drayton, Captain Quartermaster Salter, Sergeaot-Major Garten, Bugler-Sergeant Bissct't; Sydenham Rifles, Captain Hall, 25; Linwood Rifles, Lieutenant Smith, 10; Civil Servioe Riflee, Lieutenant Pavitt, 28; Highlanders, Captain Stewart, 25; Native Rifles, Lieutenant Bourdot, 15. , Total, 108. The Battalions iv«re inspected by Colonel Bauchoip, officer commanding the district,, who had with him Major Snow. After inspection, Colorvel Bauchop presented Lieutenant Colonel Bay with the volunteer decoration for twent— years' .service aa on officer, and the Imperial nnd Auxiliary Services Medal for twenty years' service. He also presented Major Snow -with the New Zealand Medal for sixteen years' efficient service. The No. 1 Battalion was then mardhed off to Cathedral Square, where they took the trnm for the' Canal Reserve, scouting thence to New Brighton, the work being as nearly as possible) on active service lines. The No. 2 Battalion were marched, to Hagley Park, where attack movements were practised. ~,'■"
