The Eyreton Road'Board met on August Ist. Present—'Messrs James Wright (chairman), Burgin, Dixon, Evane, and Skevington. The Commissioner of Taxes wrote stating that a voucher had been forwarded to the Treasury for the payment of £79 12s Bd, balance of subsidy on rates for the year ending March 31st, 1904. The Paymaster-General wrote stating that £72 7s 8d of the above had been paid to the Board's, credit at the Bank of New Zealand, ikaiapoi. Th« Secretary to the Treasury wrote applying for payment of £22 7e for interest due on August let rn the Eyre protective- works loan, and also lor a return of loans. It was r«»lved that the Board cordially support the demand for the completion of the Midland Railway. The Chairman and Mr Burgin were appointed delegatee for the Conference of local bodies in the Ashley county regarding the erection of an infectious diseases hospital." The Hon. J. T. (Peacock wrote objecting to contribute towarde the work proposed to be done fronting his land along the River Eyre. Mr Low waited on the Board on behalf of Mr Peacock, offering bear one-third,of the coet, and provide two teams with .driven at 25s per day. This was agreed to. Mr Low also applied for a portion of the South Eyre road to be shingled, and was informed that if Mr Peacock would allow the Board to obtain the shingle from hie land, halfway between Harris's road and the Two Chain road, the Board would consider the matter. The Department of Roads wrots stating t£s£ the legalisation of the stoppage or diversions of roads would be undertaken by the Department on plans being submitted for approval. Mr Lukis waited on the Board requesting that the preparation of the leaee of the (Eyreton reserves might be deferred pending a, dispute between himself and his partner being settled. The request wan agreed to. Mr Richard Bvans proposed, and Mr Thomas Burgin seconded, that notice be given of the intention of the Board to make and levy a general rate of fd in the £ for the period April Ist. 1904, till March 31st, 1905, such rate to be due and payable at the Road Board office in one eum on Wednesday. September 28th, 1904. Also that a rate of 2-64d be levied on the rateable property of the South Wpimakariri •River Board district. The resolution was carried. The surveyor was directed to invite tenders for a concrete arch_ to the bridge on White's, road over the Ohoka Creek. Account* amounting to £595 18a 8d were passed for payment.
