PAPANUI.

At tlie annual meeting of householders the attendance M*as large and the Chairman of the committee, Mr T. H. Caverhill, took the chair. The report stated that at the opening of the year there were 227 on the roll, but the average was low, in consequence of the prevalence of scarlet fever. In the last three months there was an improvement, the roll number now being 234, with an average attendance of 213. The school was closed in August on account of measles, and the January vacation was extended on account of vaccination. Many changes had been made in the teaching staff. The school grounds had been inspected by 'Mr Buddo, representing the Board, and it was recommended that an additional acre should be purchased. If half the cost was provided probably the Board would meet the remainder. It was suggested that the Board be asked to declare the school a District High School. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £9 16s 4d. The reports of the inspectors on the school were very satisfactory. Some discussion took place as to acquiring additional land for the school. A resolution supporting a teachers' superannuation fund was carried./ The committee are:—Messrs T. H. Caverhill, G. Derritt, J. C. Ford, A. S. Ford, C. "Brooke, R. W. Hawke, G. Borgfeldt. A recommendation was passed to the incoming committee to obtain a High School for the Papanui district. Votes of thanks were passed to the staff, the outgoing committee, and the Secretary, Mr W. Mulholland.
