AKAROA NOTES.

Spring on the Peninsula this year has been exceptionally dry, no rain having fallen for eight weeks round the inside of the harbour, though good showers have been experienced on the seaward side of the hills. Grass in many places is getting brown, and the growth hits been considerably checked, with the result that dairy cows are not milking well. On the other hand, the warm weather has been very favourable to tho lambing, aud good percentages are general. During the week the races for the President's Cup and Youths' Shield, iu connection with tho Akaroa Boating Club, were rowed olf. In the former J. Brown and B. Henuing were successful, while W. Munro and Bruce were the winners of the latter.

A public meeting in connection with the annual regatta was held on Saturday. The annua! report stated that the success of four-oared racing at last regatta proved conclusively that the water was in every way suited to that style of rowing. The balance-sheet showed the receipts as £149 3s 3d. and the expenditure as £129 12s Bd, leaving a credit balance of £l9 10s 7d. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. It was resolved to hold tho regatta on December 16th. The Akaroa Boating Club were voted £lO towards the expense incurred through their boat ways being destroyed. The following officers were) elected: —Commodore, Mr G. J. Black; vice-commodores, Messrs Orbell, Henning, and •Milne; treasurer, ■Mr Orbell; secretary, Mr Jacobson; committte, Messrs B. Barker, Daly, Robinson, E. E. Lelievro, Leete, G. Armstrong. T. Taylor, C. Newton, Wolfreys, P. Taylor, J. Armstrong, Jacquet, Hemingway, Munro, J. R. Newton, Virtue, Goodwin, B. Henning, Pool, Kearney, Gray, Checklev, Lvnskev. G. B. Mackay, Williams, Ingram, Michell, Chappell, Ditely, Whelch, Seelen, R. Black, S. Lelicvre, R. Paton, and Dr. fiargreaves. A Country Committee was also elected. Last year's programme was adopted, with the addition of a four-oared race for youths under 21.
