(SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") WELLINGTON, November 2. WAIREWA COUNTY. Mr Ell moved the second reading of the Wairewa County Bill. Mr Rhodes explained that Mr Ell. had taken charge ot the Bill during his absence fioin the colony. Both sides in the district had given him (Mr Rhodes) a free hand in regard to the Bill, and he would take a neutral attitude on the question. Mr Seddon said fuller information should be given to the House, or the result would be that a handful of people would have to maintain the main road. He had deputations for raid against the Bill. Mr Taylor said the Bill would be opposed in Committee. Mr Seddon said tiny might let the Bill, go through its second reading, as a matter of courtesy to the member in charge of it, and the member for the district. They could then stop it in Committee. LAND AND INCOME TAX. The annual Land and Income Tax Bill was introduced to-night. The leader ot the Opposition asked if there was any alteration proposed in the mortgage tax, or would that tax remain at |d per £. The Premier said the only alterations proposed were those proposed in the Land and Income Tax Amendment Bill, which had passed through the House. 'Hie Government did not want any other alterations this session.
