The present issue of "Tlie Weekly Press" is, in the matter of illustrations, ons of the most complete which has been put out for a long time. While tliero are a goodly number of detached subjects, the majority of the illustrations are in groups. Of these tho first place is given to a number of views showing spots that are to be visited by our legislators, who nre at present on their tour of information to the Pacific Islands. A glance at these will enable reader. to share in the tour in some degree. Then there ia a fine sot of views of the Moutoa tstate. Aa following up the pastoral interests of the colony, there are a number of pictures of the successful Eketahuna Dairy Factory. Camps are the latest means of social intercourse, and the one held by the New Zealand Presbyterian Bible Class Union, at Easter, was, perhaps, one of the pleasantest which has been held i_ the colony, comprising as it did recreation and instruction. For Volunteers, in addition to tho notes on events all over the colony, there is a set of pictures illustrating the most important event of the rec>nt mauceuvrcs by the Wellington and Wanganui Battalions, viz., the surprise attack on the Wanganui Camp nt Foxton ; there ara also groups of the Dannevirke Cadets and Opotiki Mounted RiHes. The voyage of Captain Vos* in his Alaskan canoe, the Tilikuin. around the world, is an riiternatioual feature, and in this bwue will bj found fine pictures of the Tilikum, and of, the trial «.f the sea anchor, which Captuu Yoss has found of such great- service to him during his voyage. Maori life and Zealand sc-nerv are well depicted in » couple of illustrations, while the flashlight of the first meeting of the Greater Christchurch Council, in addition to its historical interest, marks a stride in the reproduction of flashlight pictures. In addition to tho*e illustrations noted iv the Pages of the paper, there is tills week ly>. 63 of the celebrated "Press" Portraits, bir Maurice O'Rorke. In the Farmer the subjects of Formers' Unions, vaccinating cattle for tu-ercnlosis, and the decline in light-horse breeding in Enelund, are dealt with editorially. Tlie re are some instructive topics for farmers, and the stock notes are lengthy and interesting. The wool niarket and New Zealand produce in London are dealt with by Home correspondents. Letters on subjects of general interest to country settlers are published from correspondents in tlie Manawatu, Wairarapa. South Otago, Western Otago, »nd Southland districts. Current commercial reports are fully given, and tlwre is *■*:> tlie weekly budget of garden and poultry information. Attention Is civen in the editorial columns of the '"Referee" to the latest Turf •sensation, the Evening Wonder—Maori Chief case, at Adelaide. The opening of tlie football season gives follow*rs of the winter pastime their wished-for opportunity, and the doings in various centres are commented upon. Athletic doings in the Old Country are reported, particular attention being given to the Cross-Count ry Championships. Othei •ports and pastimes have the usual care and Mantua bestowed upon them.
